About the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill

The Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary was founded in 1876 to respond to the needs of destitute women and children in New York City by providing for them a home and opportunities for education. In 1884 the Sisters came to Rockland County in order to provide a safe and healthy environment for the children in their care. From our home base in Sparkill, we have spread out across the globe to continue our founding Sisters’ mission of service to those in need in the United States and through our ministry in Pakistan.

Today the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill number nearly 350 Sisters and Associates who serve in ministries including education, child care, pastoral ministry, health care, social work, housing for the elderly, and advocacy for the poor and marginalized of our society.

We thank our friends and benefactors for participating in our Sparks of Light celebration. We count on your support to be able to continue providing compassionate service as we live out our mission to be joyful women of prayer and compassion who proclaim the reign of God through ministry for justice and reverence for all creation.
